Mise En Place
Mise En Place - a retheme of Ascension
PLAY IN FULL SCREEN
A two-player deck-building card game set in a fantasy kitchen. This is based on the cardgame Ascension : Chronicle of the Godslayer
Both players run competing kitchens, hiring Chefs and buying Tools to generate resources — then spending those resources to serve Recipes and claim Fame. The player with the most Fame when the kitchen runs dry wins.
How to Play
Each player starts with a 10-card deck (8 Kitchen Hands, 2 Trainee Cooks) and draws 5 cards. Six cards from the shared
House Deck are laid out face-up on the Pass, available to both players.
On your turn:
1. Play Phase — Play any Chefs from your hand. Each generates Ingredients or Reputation. Tools you've already bought contribute automatically.
2. Spend Phase — Use your resources in any order:
- Spend Reputation to hire a Chef or buy a Tool from the Pass
- Spend Ingredients to serve a Recipe from the Pass and claim its Fame reward
- Chefs go to your discard; Tools stay in play permanently
3. Cleanup — Discard your hand, draw 5 new cards. Reshuffle your discard if your deck runs out. The game ends when either the Fame Pool or the House Deck is exhausted. Most Fame wins.
Key Rules
- Recipes never enter your deck — serve them from the Pass and they're gone
- Ingredients and Reputation are separate — you can't convert one into the other unless a card says so
- Unused resources are lost at end of turn
- Bin a card to remove it from the game permanently — the key to slimming your deck
Cards
Four factions with distinct playstyles:
- Gilded Scroll — card draw and free Recipe serving
- Verdant Table — Ingredient generation and free hiring
- Iron Forge — Tools that synergise and snowball
- Ashen Pit — raw Prep output and deck thinning
